About KGBV

The Training Programme for Empowering Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Wardens is a national initiative to strengthen leadership and management for inclusive, safe, and empowering residential schools for adolescent girls from marginalised communities.

Led by NIEPA with support from the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the programme features an outcome-based curriculum, participatory training, mentoring, and a robust monitoring framework.

From the Vice Chancellor

Vice Chancellor

The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) scheme has played a vital role in promoting girl's education, particularly among marginalized communities. Wardens, who serve as leaders, mentors, and caregivers, are central to its success. However, they often work with limited support and training.

To address this, the Ministry of Education , in collaboration with the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) , has launched a nationwide training programme to empower KGBV wardens.

This initiative plays a crucial role in strengthening the leadership capabilities of wardens and reaffirms the commitment to support those who guide and nurture young girls. By empowering wardens, we not only enhance their personal and professional journeys but also help create safe, supportive environments that foster growth and drive lasting social change.

Vision and Mission

KGBV Warden Training Programme develops confident, caring, and capable wardens committed to ensuring safety, inclusivity, and empowerment in residential schools for adolescent girls across India.

Vision

To build inclusive and safe KGBV environments where every girl learns and leads with dignity, confidence, and self-reliance.

Mission

To strengthen warden leadership through practical training, mentoring, and continuous development that ensures holistic care and effective school management.

β€’ This training program was a whole new learning experience for us as we learned through activities. It will foster a positive learning environment in the future when we teach this to the wardens. I would like to suggest that before we begin the activity, we should first communicate its content. Best wishes to NIEPA.

β€” KGBV Master Trainer β€’ UP

β€’ We got to know new things in the training, like in the socio-economic session, we learned to pay attention to the behavior of the children, the safety and security problems they might be facing and how to resolve them. The financial management session was also very important because the wardens are usually not empowered about budgeting, and they may face many difficulties. We were constantly being given tips and feedback, and observations were being made throughout the session. My suggestion is that the module is very heavy, they need to be summarized a bit, and some sessions are similar, they need to be clubbed.

β€” KGBV Master Trainer β€’ UP

β€’ I found this training program to be unique and impactful. We were actively engaged and involved in the monitoring process. Additionally, the training effectively highlighted the skills and potential of both the wardens and the girls.

β€’ This training is very crucial as the wardens will upgrade themselves and make corrections to past mistakes. What I liked most is that all the trainers ensured active participation from everyone.
