Professor Kumar Suresh is Director (Planning and Development), Department of
Educational Administration at the National Institute of Educational Planning and
Administration (A Deemed to be University under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India).
He has also served as Honorary Professor at the Central University of Kerala.
With his disciplinary strength and initial training and grounding in theory and research in
Sociology at JNU, he has worked in the broad area of policy and governance. His doctoral
research relates to the areas of policy and governance. In pursuance of his research interest,
he works on various aspects of multiculturalism, inclusive policies and diversity
management; educational administration and management, educational federalism,
decentralization and multi-level governance etc. A large number of publications in these
areas in national and international journals, books, monographs, research reports, policy
papers etc. are to his credit.
Spanning over 30 years of research, teaching and academic career, he has been associated
with a number of national and international research collaborations and capacity development
programmes including UNESCO, AAD (Hiroshima University), Forum of Federation,
Canada, Bergoff Foundation, Germany; National Research Council of Thailand. As a part of
academic collaboration and endeavour, he has visited many countries which include
Switzerland, Canada, USA, Serbia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Nepal etc. He has been leading
multi-states large research projects and policy-oriented researches. He has also been a part of
multi- countries research of UNESCO. Currently also leading a multi-institutional research
group of African-Asian countries.
He is a recipient of Sauma cum Laud (High Distinction) on successful completion of the course
on Decentralisation and Governance at the Institute of Federalism, University of Fribourg,
Switzerland.
He has served as a member of Editorial Boards of UGC Care listed national and international
journals, besides International Journal International Cooperation in Education (Emerald&
CISE, Hiroshima University). He has delivered more than 200 invited lectures and
participated in a large number of national and international seminars, conferences and
webinars. Over 40 doctoral and M. Phil thesis and dissertation, project reports of national and
international diploma programmes have been successfully completed under his supervision.
He has also served as an expert for evaluating more than 100 doctoral thesis and M.Phil.
dissertations of different institutions which include JNU, DU, JMI, MSU, DHGU, IGNOU
etc.
He has also served as a member of various expert committees of the UGC as Chairman and
member of the Committee for assessing the status for recognizing as a university as per the
norms of UGC as well as for granting status of Autonomous Colleges as well as member of
committee to evaluate the major research projects of the UGC and ICSSR.; served as member
of governing and academic bodies of universities and colleges which include M.S University,
Baroda, AMU, Aligarh; DHSGU, Sagar; Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati,
Maharashtra; IGNOU, Jamia Millia Islamia etc.; Academic Council of UGC-CEC, New
Delhi, Swayam-Academic Council, NIOS ; member of governing body of Maitreyi College
and Motilal Nehru College, University of Delhi; UGC nominee member of HRDC, PRSSU,
Raipur, UGC nominee member of Governing Body of St. Xavier College of Education,
Palayamkottai, Tamil Nadu and Tara Govt. College, Sangareddy, Telangana.
He has also contributed in the institutional functioning of NIEPA while serving as
Registrar(I/c), Coordinator of NAAC, member, IQAC, member, Research and Development
Cell, member of different statutory bodies such as Planning and Monitoring Board, Academic
Council, Board of Studies etc. and member of various committees at NIEPA.
