The National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi, has had its own publishing programme since its inception in the year 1981–82. In furtherance of the objectives of the National Institute, Publication Unit publishes Occasional Papers, Journals/Periodicals, Newsletters, Books, Reports, Lectures, Prospectus, Programme Announcements, Curriculum Guides, Calendar of Training Programmes, Training Material related to various Training Programmes, and material for various National and International Diploma Programmes, etc. The Institute also publishes books in collaboration with reputed National and International publishers for wider dissemination and outreach.

NIEPA Publications play a key role in the Institute’s mandate of disseminating concepts, methods and techniques in the field of educational planning, administration and management, as well as research and development outcomes in education to a wider audience. The Publication Unit of NIEPA has also collaborated with various institutions/organisations and brought out co-publications:

1. Collaborated with UNESCO, Paris, and brought out Hindi translations of prestigious publications, namely the EFA Global Monitoring Report and summary reports.

2. NIEPA, as ANTRIEP Focal Point, collaborated with the European Union and brought out a monograph on the Role of Head Teachers in School Management in India – Case Studies from six states.

3. Under the NIEPA–Nepal Project (an international consultancy), the report of the tailor-made course on ‘Management and Planning for Capacity Building’ of the NCED, Government of Nepal, was published by NUEPA.

4. Reports under the project ‘CREATE’ for the Centre for International Education, University of Sussex, UK, were published as research monographs under co- publication mode.

5. Reports on EFA Mid-Decade Assessment: Reaching the Unreached (India Country Report, nine thematic reports and twenty-seven state reports) were published in collaboration with Ministry of Education (erstwhile MHRD), Government of India.

6. Reports on Elementary Education in India were published under the DISE Project in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (erstwhile Ministry of Human Resource Development), Government of India.

The primary objective of NIEPA Publications is to disseminate information through print and digital media. The Institute undertakes publishing through in-house (self-publishing) and outsourced arrangements involving private publishers.

NIEPA also publishes an annual series titled India Higher Education Report (since 2015), providing in-depth analysis of key dimensions of higher education in India, with contributions from eminent scholars in collaboration with reputed National and International publishers.

As one of its core activities, NIEPA publishes a quarterly peer-reviewed journal titled Journal of Educational Planning and Administration (since 1987), focusing on educational planning, administration and development.
