Dr. Kashyapi Awasthi

Assistant Professor


Dr. Kashyapi Awasthi is a mid-career academic with fourteen years of experience in teaching, training and research and is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of School & Nom-Formal Education, NIEPA. Prior to this, she has served as a Teacher Educator at the Department of Education, Centre for Advanced Studies in Education, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat at graduate and post graduate levels. Her areas of academic interests are School Education particularly elementary education and Community participation in elementary education, equity issues in schools; Teacher Education, Professional Development and School Leadership. She has also conducted evaluative researches for the Government of Gujarat to assess the implementation of government policies, programs and schemes like the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Alternative and Innovative Education, functioning of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalays and Education for All. She has been on the advisory bodies of different state governments both for school and teacher education, such as member of the advisory body for improvement of teacher education in the state of Odisha, member of the working group for implementation of National Education Policy, 2020, government of Sikkim. As part of different working groups and committees with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, she has contributed on committees on establishment of ‘Central University of Teacher Education’, ‘Restructuring of DIETs’, ‘Roadmap for School Leadership Development’, working group on ‘Manodarpan’, ‘School Safety and Security’. She is intensively engaged with the field to understand policy and practice gaps in the field of school leadership and evolve contextual models for leading the diversity of schools in India. She is working closely with the following states as the National Coordinator – Rajasthan, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura and Nagaland on school leadership development. She also has a long experience as a facilitator working with school principals, district and block level officials across the country both with government and privately managed schools and residential schools managed by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Her key publications are in the area of school education, community participation, and leadership and teacher development.
